Bali is one of the most beautiful and diverse tourist spots in Asia. It attracts almost 1,000,000 visitors a year. Lying just south of the Equator, Bali has a tropical climate with two seasons- wet and dry - and an average annual temperature of around 28°C. The rich volcanic soil and wet monsoon weather make fertile conditions for rice plantation. The famous Indonesian rice terraces do not only feed millions of people but are also make up a spectacular sight.
The people of Bali have strong spiritual roots and the traditional culture is still very much alive. The main religion is Hinduism which arrived through Sumatra and Java during the 11th century. But the Balinese religion is a unique blend of Hindu, Buddhist, Javanese, and ancient indigenous beliefs.The majority of Bali's 3 mi. people live in tight village communities while the largest towns are the capital Denpasar, with population approximately 250,000, and Singaraja in the north. The main tourist area is Kuta with white-sand beaches, surfing, and stunning sunsets.
